Spin the Bottle
Spin a bottle â whoever it points to must say a word in the current category.
ð What You Need
A plastic bottle that spins easily on a smooth floor or table. A set of vocabulary flashcards face down in the middle as optional prompts.
ðŪ How to Play
Sit children in a circle with a bottle in the centre.
Announce the category for the round â animals, colours, food, numbers.
One child spins the bottle.
When it stops, the child it points to must say a word in that category.
If they answer correctly they get to spin next.
If they cannot answer the class can help together before moving on.
ðĄ Teacher Tips
Use a smooth plastic bottle and a hard floor â carpet stops the bottle spinning freely.
Keep categories linked to recent lessons so children are practising familiar vocabulary.
For very young learners allow them to point to a flashcard instead of saying the word from memory.
Celebrate every correct answer with a group clap to keep energy positive.
ð Variations
Flashcard spin â place cards face down in the circle and the spinner flips one over and says it.
Question spin â bottle points to the child who must answer a question the teacher asks.
Chain spin â each child must say a new word in the category, no repeats allowed.
Instruction spin â whoever the bottle points to must follow an instruction like "jump three times".
