Roll and Say
Roll a foam dice with pictures on each face â say the word that lands face up.
ð What You Need
A large foam dice â stick printed vocabulary pictures on each of the six faces using tape or velcro so you can swap them out between lessons. A regular dice works too if you assign a word to each number.
ðŪ How to Play
Attach six vocabulary pictures to the faces of the foam dice.
Sit children in a circle on the floor.
Teacher rolls the dice into the middle of the circle.
All children shout the word shown on the top face together.
Pass the dice to a child â they roll it and the class shouts the word again.
Continue around the circle until every child has had a roll.
ðĄ Teacher Tips
Print pictures at a large size so children at the back of the circle can see clearly.
Encourage children to say the word loudly and clearly, not just mumble.
After rolling, ask one child to use the word in a sentence for a bonus challenge.
Velcro attachments make swapping pictures between topics quick and easy.
ð Variations
Action dice â each face shows an action word. Roll it and do the action.
Colour dice â six coloured faces. Roll and name the colour, then find something that colour.
Number dice â say the number and count out that many claps or jumps.
Slow reveal â roll the dice then slowly turn it to reveal the face for suspense.
