⏱ 10-15 min⚡ Low energyðŸ‘Ĩ 2 teams

📚 Vocabulary

â€Ē any vocabulary
â€Ē word associations
â€Ē connected concepts
â€Ē collocations

🛠 Materials

â€Ē No materials needed
â€Ē Whiteboard to track the chain optional

📋 How to Play

  1. Divide the class into two teams facing each other.
  2. Teacher starts with a word — "OCEAN"
  3. Team A must say a word connected to OCEAN — "Fish!"
  4. Team B must say a word connected to FISH — "Scales!"
  5. Team A must connect to SCALES — "Music!" (musical scales)
  6. Continue volleying — each word must connect to the previous one.
  7. A team loses the point if they cannot connect or hesitate too long.
  8. The connection must be explainable — teams can challenge and the player must justify.

ðŸ’Ą Teacher Tips

✓Accept any reasonable connection — this encourages creative thinking.
✓Require students to explain their connection — "Scales because fish have scales."
✓This game builds vocabulary networks which aid long term retention.
✓Write the chain on the board so the class can see how far it goes.

🔄 Variations

→Restrict to lesson vocabulary only — all words must come from the current topic.
→Play individually — whole class in a chain with no teams.
→Write the connections — students write their word and reason before saying it aloud.
