Pass the Message
Teacher whispers a sentence to the first child â they pass it along and the last child says it aloud.
ð What You Need
No materials needed. Prepare a list of short sentences using lesson vocabulary â keep them to five or six words for this age group. For example: "The dog is under the table" or "I have two red apples."
ðŪ How to Play
Sit or stand children in a line or around the room in a clear order.
Whisper a sentence into the first child's ear â say it only once.
That child whispers it to the next child, and so on down the line.
No repeating â each child can only whisper the message once.
The last child says the message aloud to the whole class.
Reveal the original sentence and compare â the differences are always funny.
ðĄ Teacher Tips
Use sentences that contain the lesson's target vocabulary so it doubles as a review activity.
Keep sentences short and clear for younger learners â longer sentences fall apart very quickly.
Run two teams simultaneously and see which team delivers the most accurate message.
Write the original sentence on a piece of paper so you can reveal it dramatically at the end.
ð Variations
Picture message â first child looks at a flashcard then whispers a description rather than a given sentence.
Team race â two lines compete to pass the same message â fastest accurate team wins.
Written version â children write the message on paper instead of whispering to reduce noise.
Longer sentence challenge â use increasingly long sentences and see how much survives.
