A short story or text with lesson vocabulary

📋 How to Play

  1. Give each child a paper with a 3x3 grid — 9 empty squares.
  2. Write 12-15 lesson vocabulary words on the board.
  3. Children choose any 9 words and write one in each square.
  4. Teacher reads a short story or describes a topic using those words naturally.
  5. Children cross out or circle each word when they hear it.
  6. First child to cross out a full row — horizontally, vertically or diagonally — shouts BINGO!
  7. Child reads back their words to verify.
  8. Play again with children choosing different words.

💡 Teacher Tips

Prepare your story in advance making sure all vocabulary words appear at least once.
Read slowly and clearly — pause slightly on vocabulary words.
This combines listening, reading and writing in one activity.
Children who write the words themselves remember them better.

🔄 Variations

Use pictures instead of words for non-readers.
Play full house — children must cross out all 9 words to win.
Children take turns reading the story instead of the teacher.
